3 ways to drink Apple Cider Vinegar

This month’s “recipe that makes my life easier” is the Apple Cider Vinegar drink (and bonus- 3 variations!). It makes my life easier because I can make up several bases at a time, put them in the fridge and then just dump+add a can of carbonated water when it’s time to have one. It also makes my life easier because I can get all the good things in my body in one fell swoop. This drink is packed with so much good stuff, and I’ll lay it all out for you below. You can drink it from one of the glasses in our shop, or put it in one of those bigger 40 oz cups if you’d like it more diluted. Alrighty, read on!

To many people, the thought of drinking apple cider vinegar (lovingly referred to henceforth as ACV) is totally gross and nonsensical. To others, it sounds like a healthy plan, but completely unbearable and non-palatable.

I’m here to tell you you that you can LOVE drinking ACV and reap all the health-boosting benefits now. Yes now!

First, why would you want to incorporate Apple Cider Vinegar into your daily drinking routine?

Because! To name a few:

  • it’s anti-bacterial and prevents infection.
  • it helps in the reduction of blood pressure and cholesterol.
  • it helps in detoxification of the body.
  • natural appetite suppressant.
  • aids in nausea/wards off flu.
  • reduces inflammation.
  • helps clear the skin of acne.
  • helps relieve migraines.

So let’s get started shall we? To those following Trim Healthy Mama, drinks with ACV are nicknamed Good Girl Moonshine because they give you that yeeeeow!!! kick when you take a good swig. In fact that’s how I first came upon drinking ACV was through the Trim Healthy Mama eating plan. So check them out if you want a sustainable, healthy, balanced, plan for long-term health.

OK! So! Can we just drink it plain? NO! It’s actually bad for your teeth to have that going undiluted across them. And since we’ve come this far and have committed to drinking ACV, let’s add a few more good things to it.

Ginger. Ground (or fresh) ginger is beneficial because it promotes better digestion, helps fight infection, keeps the heart healthy, and improves brain function to name a few.

Baobab. Baobab is anti-aging, high in fiber, an energy booster, strengthens the immune system and is helpful for healthy: blood vessels, bones, gums, skin, and teeth. Dang! A happy healthy powerhouse. You can get it at health food stores or here.

Lemon. Fresh lemon juice provides antioxidants, boosts metabolism, keeps hair and skin healthy, improves digestive health, and promotes liver health.

Pyure. Pyure is a zero-calorie sweetener made from stevia. Make sure you get the one with only “organic erythritol, organic stevia leaf extract, and natural flavors” as ingredients. This is what it looks like.

Apple Cider Vinegar. Make you sure you get the kind with the “mother.” The mother gives it a cloudy appearance but it is actually super health-promoting. Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother contains healthy bacteria, high iron content, probiotics, and antioxidants.

Alrighty! Let’s make our base! This will stay the same no matter what else we decide to add to it.

Happy Healthy Base:

  • 1 Tbsp Baobab
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 Tbsp Pyure
  • 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother
  • Juice of 1 Lemon (fresh)
  • 1/2 cup water

Mix all ingredients together. It may seem like a lengthy list, but if you designate a little corner of your cabinet to it, you can store them all in one place and pull them out at once to throw together. You’ll soon be doing this without a second thought.

Now let’s make them fun and yummy! I always add a can of La Croix, Bubly, etc to my Happy Healthy Drink. The bubbles make it easier and more fun to drink and widens our flavor options considerably.

THREE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR RECIPES:

Watermelon Burst: 1 can Watermelon La Croix + 1 packet watermelon True Lime + Happy Healthy Base. Mix. Add more water as needed. Serve over ice.

Just Peachy: 1 can Peach Bubly + 1 Country Peach Passion Tea bag, brewed in 1 cup water and cooled + Happy Healthy Base (minus water. Use cooled tea). Mix. Serve over ice.

Cherry Limeade: 1 can lime La Croix or Bubly + 1/2 Cherry Berry Hydrates stick + Happy Healthy Base. Mix. Add more water as needed. Serve over ice.

You can enjoy one of those 3 simple apple cider vinegar recipes above, or use the happy healthy base to make a creation of your own! While resting assured that with each sip, you’re giving your body, healthy & happy ingredients so it can function at it’s best.

Enjoy!!

Thankful.

What’re you thankful for today? Warmer weather? A new book? Night out with friends? Ordering in food? While some things are big and obvious that you’re thankful for, this week I challenge you to find the little things to be grateful for.

I created this mug as a reminder that even on hard days, awful days, stressful days, there is always something to be thankful for. Even if we have to hunt like mad for it. 😉 Each day is a gift from the Lord, and we are told to give thanks in all circumstances.

The verse that goes with this mug is:

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I hope this mug + verse is an encouragement to you as you use it each day. It also makes a great gift for your friend, mom, sister, or any woman in your life! Along with the mug, you get the above verse on a scripture card to display wherever you need the extra reminder.

Philippians 4:6-8 – Peace in Troubled Times

Last week, I was on my knees begging for normalcy. Begging for predictability. Asking WHY. The Lord immediately brought the verse to mind. “Don’t be anxious about anything.” ANYTHING. “But,” as the verse continues, “with thanksgiving, through prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Ok. So. Number One: “with thanksgiving.” My prayer shifted. I started thanking God for everything I could think of. My kids, my home, this mild weather we’ve had, time with my husband now that he works from home, etc. As the thankfulness came and I started writing each one down, calm filled my heart.

Secondly. “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding.” It’s not normal to be at peace right now. It doesn’t make sense. Looking around us, seeing what’s been going on this last year, is extremely overwhelming. But God, who is so merciful, gives us peace. Peace that passes our human understanding. Because this world is not our home. So we shift our focus to the One who isn’t surprised by this, the One who saves us, not necessarily from our current problems, but from eternal damnation. THAT is why we have peace. Because we trust the One who made the world, who allows all things to happen, and will save those that love him when our short time on this earth is over.

Friends. If you are reading this, and you don’t have a personal relationship with the Lord, I urge you to change that. Read the Bible, find a trusted faith-filled friend to guide you, go to church. If we have learned anything from 2020, it’s that whatever we put our hope in, can be gone in a moment. Our job, our plans, our money, our friends. Put your hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. (Psalm 33:20). We don’t have to worry about how things in this world will turn out, because we know we have a future in heaven.

The verse that follows is equally important.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, is there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

It’s ok to turn off the news. It’s ok to log off social media. It’s ok, and even preferable, to make the cookies and do the messy craft with your kids. To go for walk. Snuggle your husband and/or dog or cat. So today, and everyday, let’s focus on our 4 walls and make our home a haven. To think on GOOD things, not the things of this world and news headlines that only cause anxiety.

My hope with the mugs in my online shop is that they point you to the Lord. That you enjoy the moment you’re in. And you find coziness and contentment as you sip your drink.

May this day be better than the last. Not due to circumstances, but due to the One who holds us, loves us, and is in control.

Things You Are Collection

Throughout 2020, we released a part-of-a-set mug each season. Each mug had a word that we strive to be, that coordinated with a Bible verse. The series is named “things you are” because we are stating it as if we are. We are stating that we are… cheerful, hopeful, thankful, and joyful.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” Proverbs 17:22

“As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.” Psalm 71:14

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

“May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in him, so you may overflow with hope by the power of the holy spirit” Romans 15:13

Cheerful and Hopeful were released in March and June of 2020. The time to design, pick out, order, and get mugs in my hands takes 4-6 weeks. So when I was designing “Cheerful” this time last year, I had no idea that I’d need to be reminding myself so often of the coordinating verse in the months to come: “a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones”(Prov 17:22). When schools were being canceled, there were so many unknowns (and so little toilet paper), and the year wasn’t unfolding as planned, that verse and the Cheerful reminder on the mug was what I needed while being present with my family.
Right around that time is when I was designing Hopeful, to be released in June. The verse “as for me, I will always have hope, I will praise you more and more” (Psalm 71:14) was frequently on my lips as we kept moving through the spring and uneasiness and uncertainty filled my heart. It was a helpful reminder that my hope isn’t in this world. My hope is in the Lord. And no matter what is going on around me, I will continue to praise Him.

As we continued through 2020, the next two phrases on the Things You Are collection were fairly easy to decide on. Thankful made sense for the fall season, and Joyful for winter.
As confusion and chaos show up on our phones each day with no end in sight, searching for things to be Thankful and Joyful for is extra important. These mugs and the corresponding verses are a tangible reminder each morning.

My prayer with these mugs is that even when days seem dark and uncertain, that you find things to be thankful and joyful for. That when things are spinning out of control in the world, that you look right in front of you and choose to be grateful for the blessings you have.

They are beautiful to give as gifts or purchase for yourself. Each mug comes with the coordinating verse on a card that you can display on your bathroom mirror, in your car, as a bookmark, or many other places.

It was so much fun releasing these throughout last year. My prayer is that they offer you encouragement each morning, on coffeedates with friends, and a smile when given as a gift.

The mugs have been available to purchase individually. But now that they’ve all been released, you get purchase them as a set of four. Ordering as a set gets you $15 off, plus you qualify for free shipping!

He is Still Good

With 2020 over and 2021 not looking any less chaotic, this mug is here to remind you that He is Still Good. The Lord is still on the throne, nothing is a surprise to Him, and he deeply cares for us.

God CAN rescue us from whatever he wants, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he WILL. Remember the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? They were about to be thrown into the fiery furnace for not bowing down to King Nebuchadnezzar. He asked if their God will deliver them from his hands. They replied “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted God, whether He chose to save them or if He didn’t. Either way, He is still good. They were thrown into the fiery furnace (that was so hot, it killed the men that opened the doors to throw them in!) and were met with an angel. They emerged, alive, not even smelling of smoke! In this instance, God saved them. Other times in other instances, He doesn’t.

My hope is that this mug is a reminder that whether God shows up right now, or chooses to wait…we know that He is Still Good AND that his timing is perfect. His ways are not our ways and what we’re asking for may not even be what we need. He knows better than us!

So I hope you love our latest mug! It’s a 15oz, bistro-style, camping-speckled plum mug with the text on both sides! An encouraging reminder in these chaotic days.

Some New Christmas Traditions to Try!

Traditions give a family security. A sense of togetherness. That you’re all in this together. Traditions are something to look back on fondly, remembering the good times or re-creating them as an adult.

This year, the day after Thanksgiving, my 9-year-old asked if we were getting our tree “today.” I said maybe. He replied “but it’s our tradition! We always get the tree the day after Thanksgiving!” And I realized he was right. The last 3 years, since buying a home, we had gone to the tree farm to pick a tree the day after Thanksgiving.

There’s something comforting in traditions. In a year when nothing went according to plan, Christmas traditions have been a nice solid place to plant our feet.

So, on instagram, I asked what your traditions are. I was going to arrange them by category, but I decided it was more fun to paste them here word-for-word. It’s fun to get a sense of your tone and excitement. SO, if you’re on the lookout for a new tradition, maybe something here will strike your fancy and you’ll give it a try!

TRADITIONS:

Pizza on Christmas Eve watching It’s a Wonderful Life and opening family gifts. Stockings and Santa gift Christmas morning! -Liz

Church on Christmas Eve. – Katie

Christmas pj’s on Christmas eve! We also had a sibling secret Santa which was a blast. First year married so we will see what we decide to start for our own traditions! – Annie

Get out the tree and decorate Thanksgiving weekend while watching Charlie Brown Christmas and eating cookie dough! -Krista

Potato soup on Christmas Eve! I do a marathon wrapping day with Christmas movies and hot cocoa. Walks/drives to see Christmas lights. – Elise

We always watch Christmas Story after our kids go to bed on Christmas Eve! -Brenna

Christmas Eve my lil fam watches a Christmas movie and sleeps under the Christmas tree. If we’re with my parents and siblings and their families, we have chicken Kiev’s and rice pilaf for dinner and all sleep over at my parent’s house. -Mary

Looking at Christmas lights with the kiddos!! -Anonymous

Go to bentleyville. It’s been our tradition since we first started dating. -Heather

I must watch It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Day. And then A Christmas Story. And just have Christmas music on and feel the blessings. -Brenda

So many good and fun things right!! And most aren’t all that extravagant. What makes them special is repeating them each year. Growing up, my parents gave us 3 gifts each (because: 3 wise men!). I loved it because I knew what to expect and there was stability in that. Every Christmas Eve, a bunch of our extended family went to my aunt’s after church. It was so fun playing with my cousins, plus the excitement of knowing Christmas was the next day.

My prayer for you is that this Christmas season, you find something special to do with your family. Maybe it’s something new, maybe it’s something you’ve done for years. My hope and prayer for you is that you’ll not only feel a sense of togetherness, but you’ll find comfort and hope in remembering and celebrating our King coming into this world.

Merry Christmas. Peace be with you.

5 fun winter drinks to savor and share!

Want to add some pizazz to your day?! Try one of these drinks in your favorite mug!

Good Ol Cup of Coffee!!

My go-to, always delish!

Brewed Cup of Coffee

2 Tbsp Heavy Cream

1 Packet Truvia (zero cal sweetener, made from the stevia plant. So it’s natural, not a chemical)

½ tsp extract of choice (vanilla or cherry are my faves)

Mix with a handheld milk frother and enjoy!

Apple Cider. This is my husband’s favorite drink to make our boys! No need to get fancy, just grab the cheap cider, some cinnamon candies, and cinnamon sticks if you wanna be fancy 🤪

Indian Summer Apple Cider, heated in a mug

Cinnamon Flavored Imperials (the kids like 4. Add more to make it spicy)

Cinnamon stick to stir

Mix, drink!

Vanilla Latte. This is the BEST when you have a girls’ night! You need a couple extra things like an actual milk frother (works better than a handheld one) and some sort of espresso machine (love my nespresso), but once you invest in these, you won’t spend money at a coffeeshop ever again! Fer real!

Ok so get yourself some espresso. I run a pod through my nespresso.

Then put some milk (like a half cup) and 1-2 Tbsp vanilla syrup in your milk frother. Set it on how frothy you want it. I usually use the middle setting. Let it do it’s thing. Pour it on top of the espresso. Enjoy the cheers and excitement of your friends when you serve them fancy coffee.

Kid’s Favorite Hot Chocolate. Make this recipe! Top with marshmallows. Huge hit.

Salted Caramel Creamy Oolong This is a Trim Healthy Mama recipe, I’m sharing it with love for you all! It’s so so yummy!

Pour about 12 ounces of just-off-the-boil water into a mug.

Add an oolong tea bag. Cover and brew for about 5 minutes.

Discard the tea bag and add:

– 1/8 teaspoon Caramel Extract

– 1 teaspoon heavy cream or 1 tablespoon half-n-half (or 1 to 2 tablespoons heavy cream for a super indulgent drink)

– 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon THM Super Sweet Blend (THM website) or Pyure (zero calorie sweetener, made from a stevia plant. Can get it at Walmart)

– 1 scant tablespoon THM Pristine Whey Protein Powder (optional, can get it on their website)

Mix with a handheld milk frother and enjoy!

I’m always on the hunt for a good warm drink recipe. Got one you love? I’d love to try it!! Fill out the form below and send it my way!

have a great day!

7 cozy ways to give mugs as a gift

Giving a hope-filled, happy mug for a gift is one of the best things you can do! It’s pretty (hand-lettered phrase+special mug) and practical (she’ll use it often. probably everyday).

But sometimes you want to give more. You want to make the gift even more “her” (cuz you’re a great friend!), and give something to use with the mug. Making it an experience, not just a thing.

I believe a cup of anything warm is one of the coziest things there is. So here is a list of things to make it even cozier.

7 COZY THINGS TO PUT IN A MUG AS A GIFT

A HOT DRINK. Uh YES. This is always a hit! Why? Because she has to do *nothing* except heat up some liquid. You’re giving her the vessel and the ingredients! So what does your gal pal love? Coffee? Chai tea? Hot Chocolate? Find out what her favorite is, and give her more of it.

SOMETHING SWEET. Chocolate bar. Pirouette cookies. Dove chocolate. Milano cookies. Caramel Popcorn. All of the above. Again, make her life as easy as possible and give her the comfort food she loves to indulge in while sipping a hot drink.

A BOOK. “I’ll read my books and I’ll drink my coffee and I’ll listen to music and I’ll bolt the door.” – JD Salinger. Books calm both the body and mind, relax instead of stimulate, and give us a doorway to a world other than our own. I truly believe the best gift you can give anyone is a good book! (I realized I don’t have any “regular fiction” books to put in this picture because I just use the library for them. But here’s a recent buy of mine. It’s SUCH a good book and message! Get it here. )

SOCKS. Fuzzy socks, soft socks, festive socks, wool socks. Socks are just amazing! And they tuck so dang nicely into into a mug! From funny to functional, there’s a pair out there for every personality!

BLANKET. Soft and snuggled up with a warm beverage in your hand…that is what dreams are made up! Gift your best bud THIS amazingly soft blanket with her mug and she’ll be set for ultimate relaxation. I’ve had one for years and it’s my absolute favorite! It didn’t make the picture because it isn’t looking brand new anymore. So here, you can look at the blanket I just crocheted!

PAJAMAS. Along the same lines as a blanket, pajamas are a cozy companion to give with a mug! I’ve been loving my Land’s End flannel pajamas, because they are so soft and great quality. AND they come in petite and tall sizes!

BODY CARE. Get her some nice pampering stuff that she wouldn’t normally spring for! There are plenty of amazing shops out there that specialize in all sorts of natural body care. A local favorite of mine is Miel Duluth.

Combining any of the above is always a good plan! Blanket+Pajamas+Mug?! Chocolate+Body Care+Mug?! Coffee+Book+Mug?! A different combo?! There are so many ways to give a cozy gift around a Hope and Happy Designs Mug, and I can’t wait to see what you decide on! Be a pal and email me a picture of your finished gift, or tag/DM me on instagram!

Happy Gifting!!
